When I was a teenager (I am 58 now) The Varsity was THE place to go...as well as The YellowJacket right down the street from it. There were few fast food places back in East Point or College Park so we drove downtown to get those fabulous chili-steaks and fried peach pies! And I always got a PC to drink on the way home. The food was only eclipsed by the atmosphere. Flossie would come out and spout the menu without hardly blinking..and we loved it. The men would throw a numbered card on the hood and then hop on to ride to where we would park. Kids would get one of those same paper hats the curb jockeys wore. The food is still the same....exactly the same. I go there one or two times a year from my home in Griffin just to enjoy the food and the memories of a time gone by.
